The Good, the Bad and the Oily

The Good, the Bad and the Oily

Sebum-producing agents, as with the amount of cholesterol in your diet, can be both good and bad for your skin. It’s important to know how to strike the optimal balance.

Oily skin gets a bad rap. In fact, we all have levels of sebum-producing agents in our skin which are essential to keeping our skin well-balanced and hydrated. Sebum – which is a complex mixture of fatty acids, sugars, waxes and other natural chemicals such as cholesterol which is produced by the Sebaceous glands – helps form a protective barrier against too much water evaporation.  Oftentimes, it’s when these functional components are out of balance that one experiences excessive oily skin, such as during adolescence or during period of high stress. Others are born with excessively oily skin due to genetic factors out of their control. To add to the “bad rap” image, sometimes sebum mixes with dead skin cells and tiny particles of dust around one’s face and scalp which can lead to “seborrheic skin,” or what many people refer to as dandruff. But, regardless of the cause, there is something you can do to get your sebum production back in balance!

What’s the solution?

First and foremost, it’s important to start your routine with a non-aggressive, non-soap cleanser that’s suitable for oily skin. The skin must be calmed, moisturized and toned and then the sebum production can be normalized as part of a twice daily beauty or grooming routine.

Dermophisiologique has created the Seboline line of products to help you control and counter the root causes for seborrheic (dry) or excessively oily skin. The all-natural ingredients in the Seboline have the ability to gently take action on the physiological and anatomical changes that can cause skin damage or ruptures.

Seboline consists of four products with active ingredients, each in high concentration, plus the exclusive patented Pentalpha® to normalize sebum production, as well as Pyruvic and Salicylic Acids and a mix of minerals with sebostatic action:

  • Sebostop is a light, creamy gel for daily cleansing of the face
  • Acnestop cream gel is for skin that is prone to acne breakouts and redness

Applied morning and night to gently cleansed skin, Seboline products help guarantee healthier, more balanced skin and will give you greater confidence to face each day.
